Koine and Biblical and Medieval Greek • Re: παρέρχομαι in Matthew: two subjects with singular verb

Thank you, Jean! I’m sorry to have put you to the trouble of doing such extensive research on my behalf. It wasn’t my intention to ask anyone to do so much work!

Both the authors you refer to give very clear answers. Gesamtbegriff, a new word to me, strikes me as yet another of those enviably succinct and self-explanatory compounds that German speakers seem to have at their fingertips, while Robertson has found an example (p. 405) that shines a light onto the whole question of grammatical and notional singulars and plurals, in Greek and English alike:

•Thus in 1 Cor 13:13 νυνὶ δὲ μένει πίστις, ἐλπίς, ἀγάπη, τὰ τρία ταῦτα (cf. English ‘and now abideth faith, hope, love, these three,’ like the Greek).
