I had hoped to respond by now, but I have decided to hold off on fulfilling my promise to write something. If misattribution was a important fact of the intellectual landscape, I have yet to see anybody else say so either in this forum or in the literature. It was certainly a fact. But nobody seems to think it was an important fact generally. And nobody seems to think it was an important fact for Plethon's reception in Florence-Ferrara. But because few things are as significant for the intellectual landscape as the relationship of Plato and Aristotle, I'm not going to write anything until the misattribution matter is cleared up with primary and secondary sources. It is quite possible that I am clueless and superficial in my review of the literature. But I simply have far more rewarding things to do with my time at the moment such as getting back to translating/reading Plethon myself.
