Koine and Biblical and Medieval Greek • Re: What is a βᾶρις?

κεφαλίς is also an odd word, why does this mean book?

κεφαλίς (dim. of κεφαλή) little head, capital of a column. cf. κεφάλιον
βιβλίον (dim. βίβλος) paper, document, tablet, place in which books are kept. cf. βιβλίδιον, libellus.
χαρτίον(dim. χάρτης) papyrus, or a roll made thereof Lt. charta
κυλίνδριον (dim. κύλινδρος) cylinder, roll of a book, volume.

Ezekiel 2:9 κεφαλὶς βιβλίου
Jeremiah 36:4 χαρτίον βιβλίου

In Herodotus 2.96 he describes the βᾶρις (πλοῖον) having sails of byblus (ἱστίοισι δὲ βυβλίνοισι) using the adjective βύβλινος. Euripides IA 297 as βαρβάρους βάριδας "Barbarian boats", the crew being ναυβάταν.
Ezra 6:1-2

Then Darius the king made a motion and looked in the library where the treasure is stored in Babylon
There was found in the Baris in the tower of the Median city one scroll and this is what was written in the records
Is the library/record-office in Babylon or in Media. The Brenton's Septuagint translation omits Media.
Ezra 6:1-2
Then Darius the king made a decree, and caused a search to be made in the record-offices, where the treasure is stored in Babylon. 2 And there was found in the city, in the palace, a volume, and this was the record written in it

Josephus 11.99

It appears Josephus is quoting some unknown copy of the Septuagint.

In other books the word βάρει exchanges with πόλει
