Koine and Biblical and Medieval Greek • Re: What is a βᾶρις?

Arrian, Anabasis 3.19.7
He instructed Parmenio to deposit the money which was being conveyed from Persis in the citadel at Ecbatana

citadel built on a steep rock overhanging a town (usu.

Searching for references to Ecbatana I found out that Josephus 10.264 is just paraphrasing Polybius 10.27 and is using βάριν in the place of ἄκραν.
Polybius 10.27.6

"It lies, then, below the ridge, next to Mount Orontes, without walls, but it has its citadel built by hand, wonderfully constructed for strength."
Josephus AJ 10.264
Now when Daniel was become so illustrious and famous, on account of the opinion men had that he was beloved of God, he built a tower at Ecbatana, in Media: it was a most elegant building, and wonderfully made
